Red & White Decorated Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- For cookies:
- All purpose flour - 1 1/4 cup
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup
- Icing Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Baking powder - a pinch
- Vanilla Essence - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - a pinch
- For icing:
- Sugar - 1 1/2 cup
- Egg white - 1 large
- Vanilla Essence - 1 teaspoon
- Cream of tartar(optional) - a pinch
- Red food color(liquid) - 1 teaspoon
Instructions
Preparation:
- Combine the bitter and powdered sugar and whisk light and creamy.
- Add the vanilla essence and salt. Mix well.
- Mix the flour until well combine.
- Knead and make a soft dough.
- Wrap the prepared dough in a plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 40-50 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 180 degree c.
- Line the baking tray with parchment pepper and set aside.
Method:
- Remove the dough from the refrigerator.
- Dust the work surface with flour and roll out the dough into 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut the cookies with a cookie cutter and place the on the prepared baking tray.
- Bake then in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until light brown on edges.
- Let them cool slightly.
- Remove from pan and let them cool completely.
Making icing:
- Whisk together egg whites, icing sugar, vanilla essence and cream of tarter until well mix.
- Whisk in high power for about one minute.
- Divide the dough into two equal amount.
- Mix red food color with one part of icing.
- Pipe through a piping bag and decorate the cookies.
