chinese steamed bun are simply known as bao, bau, humbow or pao is a type of steamed filled bun or bread. it’s fillings has so many variation and presentations in chinese cuisine. it can be filled with meat or vegetables fillings.

Ingredients
- for bun:
- All Purpose Flour(Maida) - 2 cups
- Instant Yeast - 2 teaspoon
- sugar - 2 tablespoon
- salt - 3/4 teaspoon
- egg - 1 medium
- lauckwarm water or milk - 1/2 cup
- for filling:
- Chicken Keema/Mince - 1/2 cup
- Prawn/Chingri keema or crub keema - 1/2 cup
- carrot - 1/2 cup grated
- ginger mince - 1 teaspoon
- garlic mince - 1 teaspoon
- onion chopped - 1/2 cup
- Green Chilies - 1 teaspoon finely chopped
- black pepper crushed - as needed
- Corn flour - 1 teaspoon
- water - 1/2 cup
- oil - 2 tablespoon
Instructions
dough making:
- mix dry ingredients in a bowl. then mix butter and then egg .
- now add warm water or milk a little by little and make a dough. knead the dough until smooth.
- cover and rest the dough for one hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
filling cooking:
- heat a pan, add oil and fry garlic ,ginger until light brown. fry onion until soft and glossy.
- add chicken keema, prawn keema and black pepper. fry 30 second on medium flame. then add green chilies and caroot cook two minutes.
- finally, mix cornflour and water in bowl and add to the mix. cook one minute. remove from heat and let it to cool.
steaming bun:
- divide the dough into 8 equal size. roll each size into a smooth ball. on a lightly flour work surface , use a rolling pan to roll each ball into a flat ovals. put the filling into ball and close it.
- place the bun in a steamer over the pan of rapidly boiling water and steam the bun for 10 minutes.
- to serve reheat the buns in a steamer for 3 minutes. serve hot with sauce.
notes:
- stuff with your choice of filling- beef , hoisin sauce, cucumber, spring onion and shiracha etc.
